Giving back hope to victims of insurgency - Zainab’s story

Zainab is now part of a programme aiming at creating a new future for displaced people in North East Nigeria. She learns dress making and embroidery at a Skill Acquisition Centre in Maiduguri, Borno State, set up by the Borno State Ministry of Rehabilitation, Reconstruction and Resettlement, with support from UNDP and the Japanese government. The centre is part of the Livelihoods and Economic Recovery initiative of the UNDP Early Recovery Programme.
UNDP and Japan supports IDPs in North East of Nigeria

With funding from the Government of Japan, UNDP and its implementing partners continues to provide support to people affected by the ongoing military insurgency in North East region of Nigeria. This support is being channeled through two projects; one focusing on Livelihood and Social Cohesion, while the other on De-radicalization, Counter-Terrorism and Migration.

Before his career began with the UN, he worked in his home country as a Socio-Economist and Community Development Coordinator for GTZMANR (1988-1990) and with Plan International during 1986 as Income Generation Project Coordinator. He holds an M.A. in Development Studies with a specialization in Agriculture and Rural Development from the Institute of Social Studies, The Netherlands and a B.S. degree in Agricultural Education from Njala University College, University of Sierra Leone.
