Under this programme, UNDP has provided assistance in the following areas:

Members of Pampaida Millennium Village Community

Economic Management – This is aimed at sustaining and deepening the political, social and economic reform agenda of the Nigerian government. Thus, support is being provided in the development of and consensus-building on the National Economic Empowerment and Development Strategy (NEEDS) and its state-level counterpart, State Economic Empowerment and Development Strategy (SEEDS) and participation in and support to the SEEDS benchmarking exercise.
Support has also been provided to the Budget Monitoring and Price Intelligence Unit ( now known as the Bureau for Public Procurement), the Anti-Corruption unit of the Federal Ministry of Finance, the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) and the management of the Diaspora Fund.
The Country Office provided strategic support to the 2005 Census exercise by administering the EU support to the exercise which came to a total of US$130 million. This was the biggest collaboration between the EU and UNDP worldwide.

Conflict Prevention and Peace Building – In this area, support has been provided by UNDP for a National Strategic Conflict Assessment conducted by the Institute for Peace Conflict and Resolution. Support to conflict management has also been provided through the promotion of dialogue between different ethnic groups and communities in Nigeria particularly in conflict affected states to create an enabling environment for effective emergency preparedness and response. In addition a National Peace Policy has been developed in consultation with a wide spectrum of stakeholders towards the promotion of conflict prevention, management and resolution.

Electoral Assistance – To support the 2007 elections in Nigeria, UNDP facilitated the establishment of a Joint Donors Basket Fund (JDBF) to provide a mechanism for channeling international assistance to the 2007 Nigerian General Elections in an effective, timely and coordinated manner. Under the overarching framework of the Basket Fund, the project implemented a two-pronged strategy. Firstly, it helped strengthen the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) technical and operational capacity to prepare and conduct electoral processes. Secondly, the project enhanced civil society’s contribution to the electoral process to maximize public confidence in the outcome. The total value of the project was US$30,302,902.

Human Rights & Gender equity: UNDP has supported building the institutional capacity of the National Human Rights Commission and local partners for effective advocacy, monitoring and reporting of human rights violations, as well as defending the rights of citizens. UNDP is also providing training and technical assistance towards increasing knowledge and observance of human rights by security agents, increasing public awareness on rights of citizens, and improving counseling and legal services for women.
