NACA and UN Working Group Increase Collaboration
The National response to the war on HIV/AIDS has received a boost as both the National Agency for the control of AIDS, NACA, and the United Nations working Group in Nigeria emerged from a one day workshop fully determined to take the HIV/AIDS National Response to a higher level.
Speaking on the occasion, the DG, NACA, Professor Babatunde Osotimehin said the meeting was necessary as part of NACAʼs mandatory responsibilities as the instrument of coordination of HIV/AIDS activities in the country .He gave an update on recent developments in the national response and stressed the need to assess the NACA/UN system Collaboration to properly situate the very critical role of the partnership.
According to Professor Osotimehin, the partnership needs to position itself for a more effective participation in all areas of national response. Proper positioning, he said, include creating Proactive synergy, harmonizing programmes and activities, as well as reducing transactional costs.
In attendance were UN bodies including UNAIDS, UNICEF, WHO, UNDP, among others. A seven member committee was set up to produce a plan for next steps.
