Crisis Response

The Boko Haram insurgency over the last seven years has victimized an already vulnerable population in North-East Nigeria. Nearly seven out of ten people were living below the extreme-poverty line, on less than $1.5 day, and economic opportunities were severely limited. The situation has only worsened. For the last three years, fields have gone unplanted and markets sell what’s available with prices skyrocketing to almost 150% higher than in 2016. Food insecurity is rampant and Northeast Nigeria stands on the brink of a famine. With 2 million displaced people living in camps and host communities, the need is urgent to not only address the humanitarian crisis, but longer-term recovery plans must be in place to prevent further calamity in this vulnerable region.Read more
